The actual discovery of television took place when George Carey of Boston first suggested sending every component of a picture over multiple circuits in 1875. While others, like, W.E. Sawyer proposed transmission of images over a single wire or channel by rapidly scanning picture elements in succession. Several visionary inventors were the first to conceive the thought of television, but it wasn’t until 1927 that Television as we know it today was produced. However, How can television come about without capturing motion?
During the short years to follow, Eadweard Muybridge, captured the first photographic recordings of humans and animals in motion in 1887. This was known as Locomotion, which simply meant, the everyday rituals of humans were now put into video streams, or photo-plate sequences as Muybridge referred to it. With this ability in hand, the capturing of motion comes the concentration on visually displaying this to the world. Not long after, the Lumiere brothers created a device they called the Cinematograph, which effectively functioned as camera, a projector and printer all in one. Their work consisted mainly of moving images from scenes of everyday life, they believed it to be a medium that would have no future, as they suspected that people would be bored of images that they could just as easily walking down the street. Now we look back comparison to what film has developed into today, Auguste and Louis Lumiere are credited with the world's first public film screening on December 28, 1895.
